Žaslių aikštė ir paminklas

Graži vieta, Kauno apskritis

Žasliai's central square sits on a site tied to a legendary episode in Lithuanian chronicles, and the town is first documented on February 28, 1457. The square retains 1931 stone paving recalling its former Tuesday market days, and is ringed by buildings that belonged to one of the district's largest Jewish communities, documented from the 16th century; by 1897 the town had 1,955 residents, 1,325 of them Jewish. Žasliai is nicknamed "Little Trakai" for sitting among three lakes. In 2012 a monument by sculptor Vidmantas Gylikis, echoing the town's coat of arms, was unveiled for the 555th anniversary of Žasliai's name.
