The Battle of Skuodas (Scoden) was fought in 1259 near present-day Skuodas in the Ceklis region. Archaeological evidence places the site about 6 kilometers southwest of the modern town, near Luknė village, where Komtur Bernhard von Haren of Kuldīga tried to intercept retreating Samogitian forces but was defeated, losing 33 knights along with many soldiers. The victory gave the Samogitians momentum that carried into their larger triumph the following year at the Battle of Durbe. Three folk-carved wooden crosses were raised at the site between 1998 and 2003, and an oak grove has been planted at the presumed battle location.
