Skulptūra "Mazgas"

Graži vieta, Kauno apskritis

This metal sculpture titled "Mazgas" ("Knot") was created September 9-13, 2024 by sculptor Martynas Bernatonis during a plein-air sculpture symposium held in Zauliškiai village by the Strėva river, part of the "Kaišiadorys - Lithuanian Capital of Culture 2024" project. It stands next to the "Mazgas" open youth center and honors Kapitonas Pranas Gudynas, an interwar Lithuanian army officer and pilot who died shielding Prime Minister Augustinas Voldemaras during a May 6, 1929 assassination attempt, aged 29. The sculptor states the rhythmic, angled metal forms evoke an engine's hum, a spinning propeller and rolling wheels, referencing Gudynas's fascination with aviation and motorcycles.
