This roughly 65 km self-guided cycling or hiking route traces the historic book-smuggling (knygnešiai) trade paths near the Nemunas and the former Prussian border. It passes natural springs and Nemunas river viewpoints, a miniaturist folk artist’s homestead, an old river port with Lithuania’s oldest water-level measuring station, a narrow-gauge railway station that operated 1902-1944, the Smalininkai antique-technology museum, an oak-tree alley near Viešvilė, and the Naudvaris cemetery, concluding with book-smuggling history and bookbinding craft experiences in Smalininkai and Bitėnai.
