Likely built in 1393 following an agreement between the Teutonic Order and the Curonian bishop over territorial exchanges, this building in Skuodas served as an administrative outpost for the Livonian estate manager, built to defend the estate and town against armed raids during frequent wars of the era. In 1951 it became home to the editorial office of the "Mūsų žodis" newspaper.
