Paminklas Tautos kančioms atminti

Graži vieta, Klaipėdos apskritis

Standing in Skuodas town park, this openwork reinforced-concrete monument by sculptor Vytautas Narutis reinterprets traditional Lithuanian cross-carving through modern sculpture to commemorate the nation's suffering from 1941 to 1991, including deportations and armed resistance. It depicts the Sorrowful Mother with a flaming heart pierced by seven swords, symbolizing her seven sorrows, and serves as the gathering place for the annual June 14 Day of Mourning and Hope. Its original artistic approach is said to have no equivalent elsewhere in Lithuania.
