Farmer Juozas Žadauskas built this Lourdes grotto replica near Šarkė manor in 1936-1938, carving a niche into a hillside above the Luoba River for a statue of the Virgin Mary. Local legend holds that Žadauskas built the shrine after dreaming that the Virgin Mary appeared to him following the disappearance of his horses. A sacred well was dug nearby, and the site was blessed twice, first during construction with four priests present, then again in 1940 when water blessed at Lourdes in France was added to the well. It remains a pilgrimage site, drawing visitors especially in May, when a Mass is celebrated on the month's final Sunday.
