Veliuona is a historic site with two hillforts rising above the Nemunas. It's a good spot in Lithuania to watch the river's bends, especially at sunset. The hillforts are well maintained, with steps and viewing platforms, so the walk is easy but very impressive. It's a place where history is felt through the landscape: legend has it that Duke Gediminas is buried here.
