Ģīmes nature trail

Graži vieta, Vidzeme

This 440-meter nature trail in Valmiera follows the Ģīme stream starting at its lock structure, where an observation platform overlooks the water. Information stands along the route are organized around three themes, water, earth and air, covering aquatic life, birdsong, plants and ant colonies, and the site plays a recording of Jāzeps Vītols's piece 'Valmieras suvenīrs' in tribute to the composer, who was born nearby at the Ģīme mills in 1863. It opened free to the public in July, built with roughly 60,000 euros from the Latvian Environmental Protection Fund and the Valmiera city government.
