Valterkalniņš is a fragment of Valmiera old defensive system and a small viewpoint by the Gauja River. Baltic Trails notes the 17th-century city defence remains and a wooden pavilion with a view over the Gauja. It is a short historical and panoramic stop in central Valmiera.
