The first church in Kelmė was founded in 1416 by Grand Duke Vytautas. The current neo-Gothic brick church, designed by architect J. P. Dzekonskas and built between 1901 and 1908, has a Latin cross plan with a three-part apse, a tall facade tower and three naves divided by pillars. Inside stand a 1913 organ made by the Latvian firm Emil Martin & Co and paintings by Sofija Riomerienė, and a "Holy Years" monument was raised in the churchyard in 2000.
