Nature reserve „Ukru gārša”

Vieta, Zemgale

Ukru gārša protects rich broadleaf forest growing on fertile, calcium-rich soils in Zemgale, with old oak and ash stands that have kept their natural composition in the eastern part of the reserve. It is notable for rare herb-layer plants such as large starwort, found only in this part of Latvia, and for nesting lesser spotted eagles and black storks. A roughly 2-kilometre nature trail follows the Tērvete River through the reserve, good for birdwatching and spotting old trees.
