South of Kandava, in Kandava parish, Tukums municipality, this roughly 99-hectare nature reserve forms part of the Abava valley protected landscape and is listed under Natura 2000. It was established to protect one of Latvia's few wild stands of shrubby cinquefoil, a shrub in the country's Red Data Book, and it also holds transitional bogs, natural grasslands and a notable freshwater limestone deposit once quarried for minerals. A roughly four-kilometer trail follows the left bank of the Abava river, including about 900 meters of boardwalk through the wetland.
