Gediminas' Castle Tower is the only surviving structure of Vilnius' Upper Castle and one of Lithuania's most important symbols of statehood. Construction on the hill began in the 14th century, with the current brick tower taking shape in the 15th-16th centuries. It offers a sweeping panorama over the Old Town and the Neris valley. The tower houses a branch of the National Museum with exhibits on the history of the city and castle, and the tricolor flag flown from its top is a traditional part of state holiday ceremonies.
