Barstyčių akmuo

Graži vieta, Klaipėdos apskritis

Barstyčių akmuo, also known as Puokės akmuo, is the largest boulder in Lithuania, located in the village of Puokė near Barstyčiai in Skuodas district. It measures 13.4 meters long, 7.5 meters wide and 3.6 meters high, with an estimated mass of about 680 tonnes, and is composed of feldspar, quartz and mica carried here from Scandinavia by glaciers during the Ice Age. Most of it lay buried in glacial sediment, with only its ridge visible at the surface, until 1957, when land-reclamation workers led by Petras Grigaitis fully excavated it while digging drainage ditches.
