Otepää, known as Estonia's winter capital, is a town in Valga County standing on a 318 m hill - the highest point in Estonia. Its name comes from a legend about a giant named Ott, whose head is said to have formed the hill. Otepää has been a winter sports hub since the early 20th century (hosting Estonia's first ski championships in 1912), popular for skiing, snowboarding and ice skating, with the Tehvandi Sports Centre offering cross-country skiing, biathlon and ski jumping.
