Švento Martyno pušis

Graži vieta, Šiaulių apskritis

Standing in Plikšilis forest and state-protected since 1987, this pine, the tallest, thickest and oldest tree in the forest, has a trunk 3.2 meters around and stands 16 meters tall. Legend tells of a blind man named Martynas whose sight was miraculously restored by the tree's bark, after which the local priest consecrated it; a small chapel bearing an image of St. Martin, with relief stations beneath it, was mounted on the trunk, and for generations visitors tied religious images and crosses to it, praying during family illness or seeking a blessing before weddings.
