Žygis, Kurzeme
Līkais mežs is a forest on the edge of Saldus city, lying within the territory of Novadnieku pagasts. It is used year-round for walking and, in winter, has marked skiing and running trails of 3 and 5 kilometers starting at the corner of Meža and Irbenieku streets. A narrow rail line once ran through the forest carrying limestone from the Saldus lime factory to Brocēni; a road now follows the old rail bed, and some of the original streetlights are still standing along it. The forest regularly hosts skiing and orienteering competitions as well as a community cleanup event each spring.
