Preiļu muižas parks

Graži vieta, Latgale

Laid out around the Preiļi manor house starting in 1826, this park was significantly expanded in the 1860s when Michael Joseph Borh rebuilt the manor in neo-Gothic style, reportedly following a design attributed to Italian architect Vincenzo de Mazotti. Its historic layout featured four-row linden avenues and an elaborate network of ponds and canals formed by damming the Preiļupīte River, complete with islands and peninsulas. Although Soviet-era neglect destroyed most of the original pavilions, bridges, and sculptures, the park endures as the largest urban park in Latvia at roughly 48 hectares, of which about 13 hectares remain covered by ponds and canals.
