During the Nazi German occupation, the Pravieniškės forced-labor concentration camp held Soviet activists, partisans and their supporters, including many prisoners brought from Western Europe. On September 4, 1941, German forces shot 253 Jews, men and women, near the forced-labor camp; this memorial and grave mark that killing site.
