Jaunanna - Medību pils

Žygis, Vidzeme

Baron Axel von Delwig commissioned this hunting lodge after acquiring the Jaunanna estate in 1904, building it from roughly hewn fieldstone rather than the dressed masonry typical of the neo-Gothic and neo-Romanesque manor houses of the era. Its corner extensions carry Art Nouveau detailing and an asymmetrically placed tower gives the building a distinctive, uneven silhouette. Nationalized during Latvia’s agrarian reforms, the tower later served as a fire lookout under the Forest Department in the 1930s, and since 1991 the property has belonged to the State Forest Service, which allows the exterior to be viewed by visitors today.
