Nobleman Jonas Adamkavičius built the original Catholic church at this site in Kolainiai in 1740. It was closed after 1864 and converted into an Orthodox chapel in 1867, returned to Catholic use in 1922, and a wooden Orthodox church was later built here in 1942. The current building was consecrated in October 1997 and is served by the dean of the nearby Užventis parish.
