Meškučių piliakalnis

Graži vieta, Marijampolės apskritis

Overlooking the left bank of the Šešupė River in southwestern Marijampolė, this hillfort and its adjoining settlement once covered about 6.5 hectares, though centuries of river erosion had washed away much of the original mound by the 19th century. What remains rises around 12 meters, with a northern rampart base stretching roughly 85 meters. Archaeological excavations, including a 2010 Vilnius University expedition, uncovered stone pavements, bronze bracelets, hand-molded pottery and traces of cremation burials spanning the first millennium BC into the early second millennium AD.
