Graži vieta, Marijampolės apskritis
This park surrounds Panemunė Castle, the best-preserved Renaissance residential castle in Lithuania, built starting in 1604 on a hill above the Nemunas River. Its centerpiece is a system of five ponds formed by damming a stream with a series of embankments, bordered by centuries-old lime and maple trees, poplars, willows and ornamental shrubs, plus a large oak considered a relic of the site's original forest. A network of winding paths links the ponds, viewpoints and rest areas across the grounds, which took their present English-garden form in the late 1700s. The park has been under state protection since 1958 and was designated a nature monument of republican significance in 1986.
