Vīndedžu laukakmens

Graži vieta, Vidzeme

Vīndedži boulder was uncovered in the summer of 2010 in the "Vīndedži" gravel quarry, Pededze parish, Alūksne municipality. The stone is 3 meters high, 6.9 meters long, 5 meters wide, with a circumference of 20.3 meters and an above-ground volume of 52 cubic meters - at the time of its excavation it was the 10th largest known boulder in Latvia, though a crack formed in it during the excavation work. Because the stone lies within the border zone next to the Latvia-Russia border, visiting it requires a special border-zone permit.
