Marijampolės Vytauto Didžiojo park

Graži vieta, Marijampolės apskritis

Marijampolė's oldest park began as the town's "Miesto sodas" (City Garden) in the late 19th century, laid out in classicist style on marshy ground crossed by the Jevonis stream, and was renamed after Vytautas the Great in 1930. It holds a monument to Vytautas the Great by sculptor J. Narušis, a memorial to the Tauro apygarda partisans, and a chapel commemorating genocide victims. A full reconstruction completed in 2012 uncovered a stretch of the Jevonis streambed and added a new fountain, footpaths, lighting, and a children's playground.
