Erected in 1930 to mark the 500th anniversary of Grand Duke Vytautas’s death, this monument was created by sculptor Apolinaras Šimkūnas and stands at a central location in Veliuona, greeting visitors as they enter the town. During the Soviet occupation there were attempts to demolish it, but local residents resisted and the monument has survived intact to the present day.
