This memorial square in Kelmė holds a stone sculpture by Kazys Bimba honoring writer Icchokas Meras, unveiled in 2010. Carved as a chessboard, it references his novel "Lygiosios trunka akimirką" (A Stalemate Lasts Only a Moment), which is set in the Vilnius ghetto during the Second World War and follows a young chess prodigy forced to choose between his own survival and saving ghetto children.
