Vilnius University Botanical Garden in Kairėnai is one of the oldest and largest botanical gardens in the Baltic states, with roots going back to 1781, when the university founded its first such garden. The current, much larger Kairėnai grounds were established in the second half of the 20th century and today cover more than 190 hectares with thousands of plant species, greenhouses and a rose garden - a popular spot for nature walks in every season.
