Sculptor Inta Berga created this concrete water lily piece in Brocēni during the 2018 ‘Industriālā māksla Brocēnos’ (Industrial Art in Brocēni) residency, one of four works the town commissioned as a gift marking Latvia’s centennial. Berga cast the piece using a mix of local Brocēni-made cement and Danish concrete, choosing the latter for a clay-like texture that cured slowly enough to allow detailed sculpting. The finished work incorporates hollows that collect rainwater so birds can drink from it, tying the flower motif to the region’s cement-industry heritage.
