Karmazinų hillfort

Apžvalgos vieta, Nemenčinės urėdija, Neries girininkija

Karmazinai hillfort (also called Viršupis) lies in Vilnius district, about 0.8 km northwest of Karmazinai village and 40 m west of the Dūkšta river's right bank. Its steep slopes reach 7-12 m, with an oval platform measuring 20x10 m. It's believed to have been a small refuge hillfort, and from the 6th century onward lost its defensive role, becoming a sacred site - an altar hill for rituals honoring the gods. About 1.8 km southeast, the Karmazinai burial mound field survives, with roughly 150 preserved mounds.
