Dāvida Augstais waterfall

Krioklys, Vidzeme

Dāvida Augstais ūdenskritums (David's High Waterfall) formed in the summer of 1998, when heavy rain washed soil out of a ravine about 300 metres east of the Dāvida mill building in Vaives parish, Cēsu municipality, exposing stepped Devonian-age dolomite ledges. The exposed rock face is roughly 3 metres high and 2 to 3 metres wide, an upper 0.6-metre incline followed by a steeper 2.4-metre drop, with iron-rich spring water staining parts of it rust-orange and depositing travertine. It is protected as a geological and geomorphological natural monument within Gauja National Park, though the site itself sits on state land with a sign prohibiting entry.
