This memorial chapel-column and cross at Žasliai station marks Lithuania's worst rail disaster: on April 4, 1975, around 5:30pm, mechanical failure caused an express diesel passenger train from Vilnius to Kaunas to collide with a stationary freight train's protruding gasoline tanker wagon. 20 deaths are officially recorded.
