Salantai Regional Park, established in 1992 across roughly 13,265 hectares in the Kretinga, Skuodas and Plungė districts, protects the old valleys of the Minija, Salantas and Erla rivers. It contains tundra-like boulder fields left by the last glacier, Lithuania's largest juniper forest and largest chestnut grove, plus hillforts and Alka Hill, tied to Samogitian sacred-fire traditions. A visitor center has operated in Salantai town since 2015.
