Trakai Historical National Park

Trakai Historical National Park is the only historical national park not just in Lithuania but in all of Europe. Established in 1991 to protect Trakai - the historical center of Lithuanian statehood - together with its authentic natural surroundings, it covers 8,149 hectares, 30% forest and 18% lakes. Its 32 lakes include Galvė, Skaistis, Totoriškės and Lūka, which form a connected water system. The park is home to the famous Trakai Island Castle and surviving examples of traditional Karaim wooden architecture.
