Germantas is a well-known point of pride for the Telšiai region, known not only for its clear water but also for deep legends about churches swallowed by the lake. A well-maintained network of trails runs around the lake, suited to both cyclists and walkers. It's a well-equipped recreational area in Žemaitija: there are pontoon walkways, swimming spots and information boards. Note: summer weekends draw quite a crowd, so if you're after peace and quiet, choose early morning or the evening before sunset. The lake is popular with divers for its clarity, so if you have gear, it's a good lake diving spot in the region.
