Germanto landscape reserve protects a chain of lakes, forests and streams typical of central Samogitia, and was one of Lithuania's earliest landscape reserves when established in 1960. Germanto Lake is the largest of several lakes in the reserve, surrounded by the Džiuginėnai, Pagermantė and Lieplaukė forests. Over 12 km of marked walking and cycling trails cross the area, including a boardwalk section and a barefoot sensory path around Ilgis Lake.
