Vilūnų Šv. apaštalų Petro ir Pauliaus bažnyčia

Graži vieta, Kauno apskritis

This masonry chapel was built in 1810 by Tadas Orvidas, a Kaunas district flag-bearer and owner of the nearby Plytninkai manor, with a small baroque octagonal tower made of field stones, for family burials below and services above. In 1815 it became a Uniate (Greek Catholic) parish church, the only one in the entire Kaunas district at the time, drawing worshippers who arrived by boat down the Nemunas. The Union was abolished in 1839 and the church later became Orthodox, then Roman Catholic again in 1919, with the Vilūnai parish formally established by the Bishop of Kaišiadorys on December 17, 1926. A 1958 restoration noticeably altered it from its original 1810 rectangular chapel form.
