A church on this site is recorded from 1636; it burned down in 1818 and was rebuilt by parishioners by 1820. The current Neo-Gothic brick church, twin-towered with a Latin-cross plan, sacristies and apse, was designed by architect Ustinas Golinevičius in 1892 with construction starting in 1896; after his death engineer Nikolajus Andrejevas revised the design in 1898 and building finished in 1903. It was consecrated on 8 July 1919 by Bishop Pranciškus Karevičius and restored in 1935, and it still retains an unused bell cast in 1632 and an organ built in 1903 by master Martynas Masalskis.
