Potato sculpture

Graži vieta, Panevėžio apskritis

A roadside curiosity greets visitors in the parking area of Ilzenbergas manor near Rokiškis: a giant potato sculpture built on a metal frame wrapped in fiberglass, shaped and painted to resemble a real potato's skin. According to the manor's caretaker, Gintaras Bingelis, it arrived on site in separate pieces and was assembled there rather than built in place. At roughly 75 tons, its creators describe the weight as equal to what Lithuanians as a nation eat in potatoes in a single day. Information boards beside it cover the crop's history in Lithuania, where it is nicknamed the country's "second bread."
