Traukinukas (skulptūra Jatkonyse)

Graži vieta, Kauno apskritis

This 2024 granite-and-metal sculpture "Traukinukas" (Little Train) by sculptor Pijus Česiūnas was created during a sculptors' plein-air event held September 9-13, 2024 in Zauliškiai village by the Strėva river, part of the "Kaišiadorys - Lithuanian Capital of Culture 2024" project. It stands near the site of Jatkonys, the original name of the railway station here: the first train passed through without stopping in 1862, and after a new Liepāja railway branch opened in 1871 the resulting "Jatkonys railway station" was renamed "Kaišiadorys railway station" that December, after the nearby manor, to avoid confusion with Eitkūnai station.
