Gelgaudiškio nature trail

Žygis, Marijampolės apskritis

A network of paths radiates from the old Gelgaudiškis manor park in Panemunė Regional Park, covering roughly 2.5 kilometers of hilly terrain above the Nemunas river. Opened in 2000, the trail passes the "Žvaigždė" (Star) clearing, where eight avenues cut through the woods once let manor owners watch game during hunts, along with sites tied to local legend such as the Assessor’s Grave and Devil’s Hill. Walkers can also stop at a spring, a baron’s chapel, and a viewpoint overlooking Panemunė Castle, among silver maples, hackberries, and beeches planted through the historic grounds.
