Vieta, Vilniaus apskritis
Covering about 790 hectares on the left side of the Neris valley across the Paneriai, Naujininkai and Vilkpėdė districts of Vilnius, this reserve was established on May 29, 1996 to protect a heavily eroded highland landscape shaped by an unusually dense network of ravines. Mixed pine, spruce, birch and oak forest here shelters rare plants such as dark-leaved catchfly and Bohemian garlic, while three ancient hillforts and a disused 19th-century railway tunnel through Aukštieji Paneriai add historical interest to the terrain. A stretch of the old Vilnius-Kaunas road, with a roadside chapel near the site of an 1831 uprising battle, also lies within its bounds.
