Built around 1780 for Count Peter Ludwig von der Pahlen to a design by Danish architect Severin Jensen, this classicist manor house in Saulaine, Rundāle parish, later became known as Kaucminde Palace after a 1909-1912 reconstruction gave it a semi-circular layout following a fire in 1905. From 1923 to 1943 it housed Latvia's best-known school of home economics, and it went on to serve as an agricultural technical school and, until 2010, a kindergarten. The building has since passed through several private owners and now stands in a badly deteriorated state.
