Walking-Stick Park

Spieķu parks (Walking-Stick Park) in Sigulda opened in 2007 as a tribute to the walking stick, a local souvenir craft with more than 200 years of tradition tied to visitors climbing the trails of the Gauja valley. Sticks were traditionally cut from hazelnut, juniper, buckthorn, willow or cherry wood, steamed, bent around a mold, then dried, decorated and varnished. A walking-stick workshop in the nearby Sigulda Castle quarter still demonstrates the craft and lets visitors make their own stick.
