Kruonio dvaro liekanos

Graži vieta, Kauno apskritis

In 1570 the Kruonis manor passed to the Oginski family, one of the most prominent noble families in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. In 1583, owner Bohdan Oginski established the manor's boundaries, and in the early 17th century the family built an ornate brick Renaissance palace with spacious halls featuring ribbed cross-vault ceilings typical of the period's Lithuanian architecture. The estate was badly damaged in the War of 1812, and the palace was never rebuilt. The former castle site, known as "Pilies griuvėsiai" (Castle Ruins), is now an archaeological monument; excavation finds are held in the Kaišiadorys Museum.
