Graži vieta, Panevėžio apskritis
Built in 1764 under parish priest Antanas Vertelis with funding from Count Jonas Jurgis Fleming, this wooden baroque church in Smilgiai has a cruciform plan measuring 28 by 18 meters, three aisles, a trefoil apse and twin towers. Its Rococo-style altars, with twisted columns and carved ornamentation, are considered among the most ornate in the region, and the church holds paintings by artist Povilas Puzinas. During the 19th-century Lithuanian press ban, its bell tower was reportedly used to hide smuggled Lithuanian-language publications, and the building is registered as a national architectural heritage monument.
