Žalgirio mūšio memorialinis parkas

Graži vieta, Kauno apskritis

Established in 1990 to mark the 580th anniversary of the Battle of Žalgiris (Grunwald) fought on July 15, 1410, this roughly 10-hectare memorial park stands beside the Kaunas-Klaipėda highway near Gaižuvėlė and Cinkiškiai, far from the actual battlefield, which lies in present-day Poland. Around 600 red oak trees and other plantings are arranged so that the word Žalgiris reads out across a 400-meter stretch, best seen from the air. Thirteen carved memorial pillars honor the battle's participants, and a central monument built around stylized Columns of Gediminas anchors the grounds.
