This stone marker stands on the Jūrkalne seacoast at the point where the 57th parallel crosses Latvia's western border, unveiled on August 21, 1999. It was the third of three commemorative stones placed that year after the Aldaris brewery noted its plant sat exactly on this parallel, the other two standing in the brewery's own courtyard and at Latvia's eastern border in Latgale.
