Stretching 1,800 metres into the Baltic Sea, Liepāja’s Northern Breakwater is Latvia’s longest structure of its kind, built in the late 19th century to shelter the harbor as part of the city’s fortress and military port. Concrete tripod blocks line its northern stretch to blunt incoming waves, and the far end of the mole is a well-known local spot for watching sunsets, fishing, and, during storms, waves crashing over the pier. A large parking area and a cafe overlooking the sea serve visitors who walk out to the point.
